OUR VALUES
What We Believe
What we do is two-fold
We center the needs of Black women and girls.
We center the needs of Black women and girls for life enriching community events and outings and learning. We gather and build community through hiking, camping, backpacking and other events and social outings through our signature adult adventure program - Black Women Hiking the DMV.
We collaborate to achieve equitable outcomes.
We collaborate with like-minded organizations, advocates, allies, and outdoor enthusiasts to address unique challenges that impact Black and brown women face outdoors and we commit to address overlapping priorities to achieve a more equitable future outdoors.
When we talk about Black women outdoors, we are talking about a variety of issues such as community, empowerment, resilience, agency, environmental heritage and stewardship, and most especially racial and social justice.

Our Focus
Equity outdoors can look like inviting people on trails for the day. However, it is much greater than that. At RISE, we focus on a wide variety of issues that impacts one's ability to participate outdoors.
